Sunwon Park graduated from Seoul National University in 1970 and served in Korean Army as an ROTC officer. He got his PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Texas at Austin in 1979, and worked for Celanese Chemical Company in USA from 1979 to 1988 as a Systems engineer, Sr. Process Control Engineer, and Staff Engineer. He also received an MBA degree from University of Houston - Clear Lake in 1987. In 1988, he returned to Korea and joined KAIST as an Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering Department. Until last February, he had been a Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department and taught Process Control, Process Design, and Process Optimization. His research areas included Process Control, Planning and Scheduling, Supply Chain Optimization, Process Modeling and Simulation, Bioinformatics, Life Cycle Assessment, New Process Development and Cold Fusion. He served as the Chairman of the Chemical Engineering Department, Director of the KAIST Development Foundation, and Dean of University – Industry Cooperation at KAIST. He also served as the Vice President of Institute of Control, Automation and Systems Engineers of Korea, the President of Korea Institute of Life Cycle Assessment. He served as the general chair of ICCF-17 which was held in Daejeon, Korea in 2012.
