Michael Melich has been a Research Professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA since 1985. He has held positions at NPS in five academic departments developing new academic programs, creating and teaching new courses and devising research projects and programs. Currently he is in the Wayne E. Meyer Institute of Systems Engineering. Developing and leading interdisciplinary research teams has involved him in a wide range of areas at the fringes of current practice.
His interest in the Fleischmann-Pons Effect began in late March 1989 and has been continued through contributions to the field such as being Co-Chairman of ICCF-14 in Washington, DC in 2008. He has published papers in the conference proceedings for several ICCF’s ranging from a study of the original 1989 calorimetric experiments of Harwell to more recent work collaborating with Andrei Lipson and colleagues, and scientific inferencing studies of FPE heat data with Rodney Johnson.
He received his BS in physics from Stanford University, was awarded an MS in experimental physics from the University of Utah, and received an MA and PhD from Rice University in theoretical physics. He was employed as an operations analyst at the Center for Naval Analysis before leading a group in command and control research at the Naval Research Laboratory. He took a two-year leave of absence in 1985 to fill the NavSea Chair of Combat Systems Engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School and has remained at NPS since.
